Board seeks guidance on accessory dwelling units, approves spring excise abatements

GREENFIELD — Board of Assessors addresses accessory dwelling unit assessment gap, approves excise relief. Chair Jim Geisman presided over the May 20 meeting with Board Clerk Charles Green and Board Member Jeremy Ebersole in attendance. The board unanimously approved motor vehicle excise abatements from May 6 through May 20, 2026.
In new business, the board discussed the lack of city code to classify and assess accessory dwelling units and agreed to seek guidance from the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers on assessment standards. The board also identified inconsistencies in property address assignments across city departments and discussed the need for a coordinated system of record.
