Greenfield Conservation Commission approves Millers Meadow restoration project. Chair Elizabeth Garofalo and members Travis Drury, Emily Boss, and Erika LaForme unanimously voted 4-0 to advance the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant-funded effort to establish forest and meadow habitat on Colrain Street, issuing a Negative Determination Type 2 that the project will not cause significant environmental damage as conditioned. The project includes native tree and shrub planting, seven benches, 10 bird houses, one bee house, and three-year herbicide treatment for invasive crown vetch using Vastlan.
Conservation Agent Jessica Siegel reported the plan has already received Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program approval. The Commission imposed six conditions, including developing a bee house maintenance plan, adding two bat boxes, and mowing the meadow every three years to prevent woody species encroachment.
