The Greenfield City Council voted to appropriate $25,000 toward next steps for repairing the landmark Poets Seat Tower, while city boards separately weighed eliminating downtown parking requirements and banning kratom sales.

The City Council approved $25,000 in funding to begin the process of repairing Poets Seat Tower, the historic observation tower that is a signature landmark for the city, according to a News Flash-sourced report. The vote sets in motion the next phase of planning for the structure's rehabilitation, though a timeline for construction has not yet been announced.

Separately, the Economic Development Committee this week discussed a proposal to eliminate parking requirements citywide, part of an effort to ease development rules in Greenfield. The Board of Health is also considering a ban on the sale of kratom, joining a number of other Massachusetts communities weighing similar restrictions on the herbal supplement.

The City Council additionally voted to appropriate $25,000 toward next steps on a proposal that would cap resale prices for sports and concert tickets, according to town-sourced reporting, though details on enforcement and scope were not specified.
