Planning Board backs zoning amendments to clear downtown contradictions

Greenfield's Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend zoning amendments resolving downtown code contradictions. The board's recommendation to City Council targets Section 200-5.3 and Section 200-6.2 of the Zoning Ordinance, addressing contradictory language imposing a 35-foot height limit and large setbacks that Planning and Development Director Ella Wise said contradict downtown housing goals documented in the 2014 Master Plan and 2024 Greenfield Housing Plan. Board member Victor Moschella questioned how a recent Main Street project received approval without complying with residential district dimensional requirements, and the board attributed the inconsistency to code contradictions the amendments would resolve.
