Planning Board defines housing shelters, requires site plan review

Greenfield Planning Board votes to regulate housing shelters with new zoning requirements. The board voted 4 to 1 to amend zoning to define housing shelters and require site plan review, with parking requirements of one space per 10 beds plus one per maximum-shift employee, under the motion of Clerk Peter McIver. The amendment followed research by Director Ella Wise finding that hypothetical shelters would not currently require site plan review.
In a separate 4-0-1 vote, the board voted to simultaneously initiate zoning amendments on residential uses in non-residential districts and shelter regulations. The board also heard presentations on Green River corridor management and open-space conservation mapping.
