Greenfield's Board of Assessors approved a batch of motor vehicle excise tax abatements but warned residents checks will now take one to two months longer under a new monthly refund schedule.
Other Committee · Meeting of October 21, 2026
Greenfield's Board of Assessors approved a batch of motor vehicle excise tax abatements but warned residents checks will now take one to two months longer under a new monthly refund schedule. Chief Assessor Christina told members Chuck Green and Jim Geisman the change, requested by the Treasurer and Collector's office, is "just an internal process" unrelated to the state. She said final numbers won't be ready for a November tax classification vote, pushing the City Council decision to December, possibly requiring a special meeting around the holidays.
Christina said she has "heard from sources" that debate over adopting a split tax rate will be significant, though she said the decision rests with the council. The board also voted to sign abatements and discuss Appellate Tax Board cases and exemption applications in executive session.
