Other Committee · Meeting of May 18, 2026
Greenfield's Community Relations Committee voted 3-0 with one abstention to advance a resolution backing state rent stabilization legislation and a November ballot initiative capping annual rent increases at the rate of inflation, up to 5 percent. Councillors Brown, Bolduc, and Citizen Alves voted in favor; Councillor Dillamas abstained, saying he wanted more research; Councillor Minhas was absent. The resolution, brought forward by Councillor Citizen Alves in coordination with the Keep Mass Home coalition, supports both a pending local opt-in act at the State House and a statewide ballot initiative voters will see in November.
Two public commenters argued the council had not solicited landlord or maintenance-industry perspectives, with one saying budget squeezes under rent caps historically fall on maintenance departments first. The resolution was expected to go before the full City Council on Wednesday.
