Other Committee · Meeting of June 4, 2026
Greenfield Historical Commission plans stagecoach display at Beacon Field for the Fourth of July. The commission advanced plans at its June 4 meeting to transport the city's historic stagecoach on a flatbed truck to Beacon Field for the July 4 fireworks, with commission member Sarah coordinating logistics with the Department of Public Works and Recreation Department contact Christy. An online Square store holding $575 has been set up to accept donations and sell branded merchandise, with a city liaison named Ella expected to be added as a second signatory for financial oversight.
The commission also heard that Poet's Seat Tower, recently closed due to deteriorating masonry and rusting stairs, does not appear on the National Register of Historic Places, a gap that would need to be closed to unlock restoration grant funding; a city representative said the mayor's office is committed to a "sustainable" restoration and is pursuing tourism grants. Terry was unanimously reappointed to the Community Preservation Committee, and the commission agreed to place Battle of Turner's Falls interpretive signage in Greenfield on future agendas, building on four signs already installed in Turners Falls.
