Greenfield Recreation Commission sets $18,500 fireworks budget, warns funding model is unsustainable. Commissioner Dan Paisaghi's motion to fund Winter Carnival fireworks at $5,000 and Independence Day 2027 fireworks at $13,500 passed by roll call, seconded by Commissioner Mark Jakeway. Recreation Director Christy reported the fireworks account swung to a positive $2,608.41 after running roughly $11,000 in deficit.
The 2026 Independence Day show leaned on one-time support: a $17,000 Friends of Greenfield Recreation sponsorship tied to the 250th anniversary, $4,250 from businesses, $7,050 in vendor fees and $8,000 from commissioner-led fundraisers. A draft public letter, read by Commissioner Heather, states the "current model is not sustainable without additional community support" and directs residents to friendsofgreenfieldrecreation.org. The Friends account held $18,956.82 as of July 16.
