Commission Backs Fire Promotions for Kimball, Perotti
Greenfield's Public Safety Commission voted unanimously to recommend two fire department promotions and flagged a looming ambulance fund shortfall.
Other Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Greenfield's Public Safety Commission voted unanimously to recommend two fire department promotions and flagged a looming ambulance fund shortfall. Fire Chief Robert Strand's recommendation letters, read into the record, backed Provisional Captain William Kimball for permanent captain and acting Lieutenant Matthew Perotti for permanent lieutenant; both passed unanimous roll-call votes and head to the mayor for final action. Deputy Fire Chief Peter McIver told commissioners the ambulance revenue account, which funds three firefighter salaries, held about $650,000 and spent $562,929 this fiscal year, projecting a deficit "of more than $100,000" within two years without higher revenue.
Dispatch supervisor Cindy Hunter reported 3,501 calls for service in July and said the department lost two per diem dispatchers, Trevor Brunette and a dispatcher identified only as Madison, while passing a three-year CJIS compliance audit. McIver said the account's spending "is not sustainable" without more calls or revenue. Commissioners also approved June 3 and July 22 minutes and set the next meeting for September 23.
