Greenfield Parking and Traffic Commission moves to crack down on chronic Main Street parking abuse and rejects a District Attorney's office request for reserved garage spaces. At the June 1 meeting, Chair Sebastian Guendam and members Michael Mullen and Gene Wall voted unanimously to direct parking enforcement to apply the existing two-hour weekday limit on the Main Street block fronting Brad's Place, after property owner Isaac Mass relayed complaints from longtime tenant Dan Devine that three or four vehicles had taken to claiming metered spots every Friday afternoon and holding them through the weekend. The commission also voted unanimously to maintain its policy against dedicated garage spaces, telling the DA's office that standard permits are available but the garage, already oversold, cannot accommodate 25 to 30 reserved slots.
A treasurer's spreadsheet reviewed at the meeting showed parking operations have run a cumulative deficit of roughly $47,000 in recent years, prompting discussion of ending the garage's free-lunch and free-first-hour policies and reinstating Saturday on-street metering, with a formal proposal expected before January 1, 2027, when permit prices are reset.
