Greenfield Ways and Means Advances $70 Million FY27 Budget to City Council
Greenfield Ways and Means Committee unanimously advances $70 million FY27 general fund budget with no amendments.
Other Committee · Meeting of June 2, 2026
Greenfield Ways and Means Committee unanimously advances $70 million FY27 general fund budget with no amendments. The committee approved all five budget orders at its June 2 meeting, including the $70,024,736 general fund appropriation (Order FY26-106) and enterprise fund budgets for water ($2,815,181), sewer ($3,895,664), and the Greenfield Community Energy and Technology enterprise ($2,202,201). The meeting's sharpest debate centered on the mayor's proposal to eliminate the Recreation Department's youth center coordinator position, which runs the Rec Room middle school after-school program; Recreation Commission Chair Donna DeSell told the committee the department had offered a $17,600 counteroffer stripped of nearly all non-salary expenses, but the mayor held firm at a $249,000 departmental budget.
Recreation Director Christy said flatly, "With this position eliminated, there will be no Rec Room." The mayor directed the committee to page 161 of the budget book, where the contributory retirement fund is up $500,000 this year and projected to rise another $500,000 in FY28, calling the structural cost of benefited positions the central constraint. The committee's next meeting is June 16.
