Greenfield Public Safety Commission splits 4-3, brands neighbor's dog "dangerous." The panel ruled a nearly four-year-old German shepherd owned by Hector Colazzo met the state's legal definition of a dangerous dog after evidence of two biting incidents, one leaving complainant Crystal with a scar requiring stitches after an August attack and a March mauling of her own dog. Commissioners voted 4-3 for the dangerous designation over a nuisance finding, then ordered the dog restrained, confined indoors and muzzled whenever it leaves the property, with neutering required within six months. "This dog is a danger to our neighborhood," Crystal told the board.
The panel unanimously rejected a euthanasia provision. Separately, the commission unanimously recommended the city reverse traffic direction on sections of Davis and School streets to speed fire department response, per Fire Chief Strand. Dispatch supervisor Cindy Hunter reported her division ran roughly $30,000 to $35,000 over budget for a second straight year.
The meeting opened with condolences for fire Captain John Whitney, who died that morning.
