Greenfield School Committee rescinds literacy audit authorization, citing improved student benchmark data. The committee voted 3-1 with two abstentions at its July 8 meeting to rescind a prior authorization for a district-wide literacy audit after Member Ann Deitman pointed to end-of-year data showing students performing well below benchmark dropping from 41 percent to 29 percent of the measured cohort over the 2025-26 school year. A preceding motion to contract with Keys to Literacy as the audit vendor had already failed 2-3, with Chair Sexton abstaining and stating the audit "didn't really teach us anything that we didn't already know", a comparison she drew to an earlier paid transportation study.

Incoming Superintendent Carol Kruiser, eight days into the role, called the literacy data "extremely promising" but declined to take a position on the audit. The committee also unanimously authorized the administration to purchase or lease three 10-passenger transit vehicles from the transportation revolving fund, and voted to appoint seven community members, Roxanne Wiedegardner, Amy Amen, Derek Healy, Mike Davis, Isaac Mass, Liz Reno, and Doug Selwyn, to the new Long-Term Facilities Use Advisory Committee.
