Greenfield School subcommittee unanimously backs replacement of three transportation vans at up to $73,000 each. The Budget, Finance, and Warrants Subcommittee voted 3-0 on June 22 to recommend that the full School Committee approve the purchase or lease of three Ford Transit-style vans, two 10-passenger models and one wheelchair-accessible unit, using funds from the district's transportation revolving account, with lease pricing expected before the July School Committee meeting. Transportation Director Teresa told members current monthly repair bills on the aging fleet are running roughly $4,000 to $5,000, and a single recent purchase order increase hit $11,000.
The subcommittee also heard an extended briefing from Business Manager Andy on Massachusetts Chapter 30B procurement thresholds following public complaints about the district's HVAC contract bidding process; Andy said the district has since implemented a vendor-contact log and referred the compliance question to district legal counsel. Member Ann Childs pressed for greater public transparency, saying, "People are not just sitting by anymore, there are people saying transparency."
