Cable Board Opens Comcast License Review
Greenfield Cable Advisory Board hears overwhelming support for GCTV funding.
Other Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Greenfield Cable Advisory Board hears overwhelming support for GCTV funding. Chairman Jonathan Weber, also the city's communications director, opened the "ascertainment" process ahead of Comcast's cable license expiring in July 2028, which funds Greenfield Community Television through a franchise fee capped at five percent of gross revenue plus an $18,000 annual capital payment. More than three dozen residents, volunteers and City Councilor Sarah Bolduck urged the board to preserve full funding, with volunteer Christian Morrell asking that the next agreement include "a path toward 4K distribution." One speaker said it took Comcast 15 months to upgrade GCTV's channels to high definition.
Comcast's local subscriber base has fallen roughly 50 percent since 2018. The board approved its prior minutes and voted to adjourn, both unanimously; no vote was taken on the license or franchise fee itself.
