Kathleen Kenny Elected Human Rights Commission Vice Chair
Other Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Greenfield Human Rights Commission elects Kathleen Kenny vice chair, weighs shrinking to five seats. Chair Nate cited repeated quorum failures under the current seven-seat roster, including a missed May meeting, and said a proposal to cut the commission to five seats will come to a vote in October, pending City Council approval. Kenny was elected vice chair 4-0 by roll call, and new member Zoe Smith, a Greenfield police officer and 20-year paramedic, was formally welcomed.
The commission set its Human Rights Awards ceremony for December 10 at the Greenfield Public Library on a $500 budget, with nominations due by the end of the day November 8. Smith said the "vast majority" of police calls trace back to a "public health root cause." Members also approved their full 2027 meeting calendar by unanimous roll call vote.
