Panel sends revised assignment policy to legal review
The Greenfield School Committee's Policy Subcommittee voted to send revised student-assignment rules to legal counsel and advance a two-factor authentication policy to the full committee.
School Committee · Meeting of October 19, 2026
GREENFIELD — The Greenfield School Committee's Policy Subcommittee voted to send revised student-assignment rules to legal counsel and advance a two-factor authentication policy to the full committee. Vice Chair Ann Childs presented edits to policy JCA, borrowing "extreme and/or extraordinary hardship" language from the Holyoke school district, saying the changes would align written policy with how the district has actually enforced transfer requests under three superintendents. Member Jeffrey Diteman shared his own district's more detailed EEAG transportation policy, which requires signed liability releases and at least three people in any staff-driven vehicle; the subcommittee postponed action on that policy until November pending a recommendation from Superintendent Carol.
All votes passed 3-0 on roll calls of Childs, Diteman and member Elizabeth DeNeeve. The subcommittee also agreed to take direct editing control of the long-neglected committee handbook, which members said was mistakenly published as an unfinished draft containing private legal-counsel contact information.
