Greenfield School Committee Creates Long-Term Facilities Advisory Panel, Signs GEA Agreement
Greenfield School Committee votes to create a long-term facilities advisory panel and advances Chapter 70 advocacy at April 8 meeting.
GREENFIELD -- April 8, 2026, Greenfield School Committee votes to create a long-term facilities advisory panel and advances Chapter 70 advocacy at April 8 meeting. The six-member committee, sitting without Mayor DeSorger who was ill, voted 5-0 with one abstention to establish a Long-Term Facilities Use Advisory Committee with a May 2027 deadline for recommendations on building use, potential regionalization, and school reconfiguration; Chair Sexton, Member Deitman, and Secretary Webb are named as the school committee's three representatives, with roughly 10 public members to be added through an open application process. The committee voted unanimously to dissolve the prior redistricting and reorganizing ad hoc subcommittee to make way for the new body, with Member Deitman urging successors to use data already compiled through prior public listening sessions. Three unanimous resolutions advanced state-level advocacy: support for the Massachusetts Foundation Budget Review Commission being reconvened to revisit Chapter 70, support for climate literacy bills H560 and S391 backed by Mass Audubon, and a new procedure for formally drafting and routing such resolutions. A motion to support H1399 on municipal Medicare retiree health plans was rescinded and postponed to May after a contested 2-1-3 vote prompted a procedural debate over whether abstentions count as present-and-voting. Following executive session on collective bargaining with the Greenfield Education Association, the committee voted unanimously to instruct Chair Sexton to sign the resulting memorandum of agreement.
