Greenfield School Subcommittee Sends AI Policy to Full Committee for Review

School Committee · Meeting of April 27, 2026

Greenfield school policy subcommittee advances AI use policy and tightens volunteer access rules. The three-member Policy Program and School Committee Handbook Subcommittee voted unanimously Monday to forward the district's revised Empowered Digital Use Policy, policy IJNDB, to the full School Committee after adding language requiring that administrative guidelines "ensure academic integrity and the effective pursuit of learning goals." Assistant Superintendent Stephen Sullivan and Technology Director Ian Edwards, who co-developed the policy after attending a Collaborative for Educational Services workshop last November, said the attorney-reviewed draft is a "living document" and that teacher training will need lead time before the school year begins. The subcommittee also voted to retain facilities use policy KFR unchanged after reviewing a $25 per-event non-profit rate that members found reasonable, and kept volunteer background-check policy ADDAE on the books while directing the superintendent to develop a clearer two-track framework distinguishing supervised parent volunteers from those with potential unsupervised contact with students.

Members flagged the absence of a standalone academic integrity policy and a perceived gap in vaping-related policy language — both identified in part through student feedback at the district's YELO program — as new business for the full committee.
