Greenfield panel OKs minutes, presses schools on staffing

Other Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Greenfield finance subcommittee digs into special ed costs and a proposed nurse leader post. Members Webb, Goodwin and Childs unanimously approved prior minutes and reviewed August warrants, where out-of-district special education tuition and new band instruments were the largest expenses. Staff said the district is recruiting special education instructional aides and one more special education teacher, and raised the 1.6-to-2.0 FTE special education assistant staffing change to two hires, Catherine and Robin.

A member noted neighboring districts start paraprofessionals near $21.50 an hour versus nine years for Greenfield aides to reach that rate. Staff pitched a combined nurse leader and mental health coordinator position, warning "the medical liability we put ourselves in by not having a leader is crazy," while a member said the district has "not addressed the number one thing, which is the equity in a classroom" across schools. Boys and girls soccer will field JV teams only this fall.
